Institute for Electronic Arts Residency
/Last month’s Electronic Media & Film residency at the Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA) in Alfred, NY was super productive- I shot two new videos in five days! The first, Natural Woman (which will be part of my upcoming feature-length project, Twist), was shot in The Division of Expanded Media’s Immersive Gallery. In this video, I performed Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel Like (A Natural Woman)” while processing my voice in real-time using my elecronic bra, “The Nipulator 2.0.” The second video, Sandin Nails (working title) was shot in the Junior/Senior Video Studio using Alfred’s historic Sandin Image Processor. The output of the Sandin was chromakeyed in real-time onto my green screen-colored nails using TouchDesigner software. This piece is currently in post-production and coming soon!
It was incredibly meaningful (and nostalgic) to return to my alma mater, the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, to make new artwork. Alfred is where I became a video artist 21 years ago and my residency was filled with the same energy of excitement and experimentation that fueled me back in my undergraduate days. Much about Alfred has changed since then (new people, buildings, galleries, restaurants, etc.) but its unique spirit has stayed the same. I’m immensely grateful to the Institute for Electronic Arts for this opportunity, and especially thankful to Kevin Kripper, Dave Mosier, Leslie Rollins, Joseph Scheer, Eric Souther, and Sarah Turner for their warm welcome, and generous support of my projects.
