Florida Oasis
February 11, 2012
Comfort Station, Chicago, IL
Florida Oasis was a mini video and performance festival organized by Erica Gressman and Katie Torn. The Comfort Station was decked out in Florida decor to offer an oasis from Chicago's winter chill. This was Panzarino's first performance of Mammaries, her cover of Barbra Streisand’s 1973 hit single, “The Way We Were". Panzarino performed with the aid of The Nipulator, her custom-built, wireless electronic bra. The bra uses hardware potentiometers (or knobs), an Arduino microcontroller, and a Max/MSP software patch to process Panzarino's voice in real-time. The right "nipple" of the bra (nip)ulates the frequency of Panzarino’s voice, while the left "nipple" adds reverb. Katie and Erica also performed that night, as did Lindsay Denniberg and Cassandra Jackson. Snow Yunxue Fu and Lantian Xie (Lee) created visuals for the event.
